CAN YOU HELP KENT FIRE AND RESCUE

Can you spare five minutes to help Kent Fire and Rescue Service?  The Service is consulting on their plans to improve fire and rescue cover across the county and are asking local people for their views.  Last year a neighbourhood watch member won the £100 voucher prize draw – this year it could be you!  Just complete their survey and please help spread the word by passing this email on to anyone you know living or working in Kent and Medway.  Survey:  http://www.kent.fire-uk.org/about_us/have_your_say/public_consultation.aspx or look at their website at www.kent.fire-uk.org

SHED BREAKS LEAFLET- Advice on protecting your belongings in the garden shed- this is available in the documents centre and can be printed.

NHW LEAFLET - There is a new NHW leaflet which is available to download and
print. This may encourage more people to join or consider starting a scheme.

This is available in the document centre.

HAVE YOUR SAY SURVEY

KCNWA would like to invite you all to go to the links page of this site and click on the link to the Kent Police Authority and participate in the 'Have Your Say' survey on the current policing issues in Kent.  A new series of issues will appear each month.

Single non-emergency number for Kent Police

To make it easier for the public to contact Kent Police, the force will be adopting a single non-emergency number: 01622 690690.

The aim of using a single non-emergency number is to:

  • make it easier for the public to know how to contact us with non-urgent enquires
  • reduce confusion about which number to use
  • bring the force in-line with Home Office requirements and other agencies/forces who successfully use a single contact number
  • reduce the burden of unnecessary 999 calls by comprehensively marketing the single number across the county

KENT FIRE & RESCUE

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) have thanked everyone who took part in their consultation at the end of last year, and have especially praised those involved in local neighbourhood watch schemes for their active input and involvement.

In total 1800 members of the public and local businesses took part in the consultation, providing valuable feedback to KFRS on the changing risks in the area affecting the fire and rescue service. These include more elderly and vulnerable people living alone, an increase in numbers living in overcrowded homes and shared rented housing, more extreme weather events, more traffic on the roads and new building materials and methods changing how fires spread. Respondents to the survey said they were concerned about the impact of new housing developments and increasing population.  The public wanted KFRS to work with developers to ensure that ways to decrease fire and flood risks are considered when plans are drawn up. In all 89.2% of the public felt KFRS was doing a good job.  KFRS fed the public feedback into their Risk Management Plan that was agreed by their Authority last month.

The prize draw of £100 went to Betty Chambers, a neighbourhood watch representative for Woodbrook, Charing.

CRIMESTOPPERS .

Press notice
9 March 2010

Crime-fighting charity, Crimestoppers, is reminding Kent residents that they never cold call individuals and that any cold callers claiming to represent Crimestoppers are misleading the public.
The warning follows reports to Crimestoppers than two households in Birchington and Deal, East Kent, both of whom received calls this morning (9 March 2010) from individuals claiming to be from Crimestoppers selling security systems.
Crimestoppers advises anyone who receives a call that they believe to be suspicious to call Action Fraud, operated by the government's National Fraud Authority, on 0300 123 2040.

For further information on Crimestoppers contact Steve Mellers, Project Organiser for Kent Crimestoppers, on 07782 641 099 or steve.mellers@crimestoppers-uk.org
