General Information

The Association of North Kent Neighbourhood Watches territory covers the North Kent policing area, which matches the wards of the Dartford and Gravesham Borough Councils.

The North Kent Police area stretches from the Greater London Council of Bexley border with Crayford in the west, to the Medway Council border with the village of Higham in the east and the Sevenoaks District Council border with the villages of Wilmington, Sutton at Hone, Longfield and Meopham in the south. This covers some 120 square miles in which there are some 85,000 households. The population of this area is in the region of 225,000 and include: Bean, Bluewater, Cobham, Darenth, Dartford, Gravesend, Greenhithe, Hawley, Higham, Istead Rise, Joydens Wood, Longfield, Luddesdown, Meopham, Northfleet, Shorne, Sole Street, Southfleet, Stone, Sutton at Hone, Swanscombe, Vigo, Wilmington and surrounding villages

There are currently 262 watches in the North Kent area, as well as watches in the main towns of Gravesend and Dartford, there are watches in most of the rural areas.

Each watch should have its own co-ordinator, with a deputy if possible. The co-ordinator is the person that is contacted if the Police have information to pass out and should be the person who contacts the police with any information from the watch.

All watches are members of the Association of North Kent Neighbourhood Watches, which has a Chairman and committee who have all been duly elected. The committee meets at regular intervals to discuss various matters. In addition newsletters are produced and circulated.

The aims of Neighbourhood Watch are to reduce the opportunities for crime and make it more difficult for criminals to act, to build community spirit so that neighbours can work together for the benefit of all, and to tell the police and neighbours about suspicious incidents in the neighbourhood.

To find out more please contact Jill Mendham, Watch Liaison Officer for North Kent Area on: 01474 366360.
